3
Q

how is ammonium nitrate produced in a lab vs industrially

A

lab
small scale
made uing ammonia and sulfuric acid
made by titration and crystillisation
made in batches

industrial
large scale
made using raw materials for ammonia and sulfuric acid
has several stahes
made continiusly

Q

how does dynamic equilibrium move when the temp is increaced

A

it moves in the direction of the endothermic reaction and the time taken to reach equilibrium decreaces

Q

how does the dynamic equilibrium position move when pressure is increaces (gases)

A

moves to the side of the equation with fewer molecules of reacting gas
the time taken to reach the equilibrium decreaces

6
Q

how does the dynamic equilibrium position move when the concentration of a reacting substance is increaced

A

moves away from the reacting substance in the balanced equation
the time taken decreaces

7
Q

why are the conditions for the haber process chosen

A

there are fewere gas molecules on the right hand side so as the pressure is increaced the position of equilibrium moves to the right
this increaces the rate of reaction
the pressure chosen is 200 atmospheres

the temp chosen is 450 as it gives an acceptable yeild in a acceptable time

an iron catalyst is used as it dosnt chnage the position but speeds up the reaction

Q

what two components does a chemical cell have

A

two different metals dipped into solution of one of their salts
a ‘salt bridge’ to allow dissolved ions to pass from one solution to the other

a voltage is produced between the two metals
the further the metals are in the reactivity series the greater the voltage
teh current flows as it is connected to an external circuit

Q

descibe a fuel cell

A

fuel cells are supplied with fuel and oxygen from the outside
no buring takes place
they produce a voltage for as long as reactants are supplied
