A

Combination of components organised to modify motion, they change movement and force into a more desirable form. Examples include lever, inclined plane, wheel, gears, door handles, water taps, switches, wheelbarrows and scissors.

A

Electrical systems are used to supply electricity and include non-semiconductor components such as motors, transformers, solenoids, switches, lighting (except LED lighting) and batteries.

A

Electronic systems include all semiconductor-based devices, sensors and all digital systems whether programmable or not. Electronic systems always require electricity and must therefore include an electrical subsystem.

A

Solder is a metal alloy (60% tin & 40% lead) with low melting point. It is used to join two metal surfaces by alloying (in the molten state) with their surfaces.

When there is not enough resistance in a circuit there is too much current flow which can melt the wires and even create fire.

A

Electrons will only flow if there is a continuous loop so the electrons can travel from the positive end of the battery to the negative end. Once the loop is finished the circuit is completed and electrons will flow.

A

A system that monitors the output and makes appropriate adjustments to the process. They work independently and are automatic, with sensors that monitor and control the system
Examples include climate control systems

What is an open loop system? What are examples of this?

A

They do not monitor the output and don’t adjust the process. They require human interaction to manually operate.
Examples include clothes dryers and watering system controlled by a timer.
