trading blocks
agreement between a number of countries to promote free trade among it members
example: EU - in 1963 it introduced its common agriculture policy (CAP)
multilateral agreements
these exist where several countries engage in a trading relationship with a third party
example: Lomé agreement 1975 where EU gave Africa, Caribbean, pacific nations almost completely free trade access to EU markets
bilateral agreements
one made between two political entities that has mutual benefits and is legally binding
example Waitrose has agreement with St Lucia for fair trade bananas
emergency food aid in Nepal
-sent to survivors of the 2 earthquakes in 2015
OBJECTIVES
-to deliver food to most in need especially in the remote mountains
-food was distributed to nearly 2 millions people in 7 different districts
-cash was given so they could buy food locally
-to run a logistical service such as a relief hub at kathmadus airport
INPUTS
-terraced hillsides to prevent erosion
-digging ditches and irrigation to catch rainwater
-building dams to create sustainable water supply
OUTCOMES
-enough corn, soy, coffee and fruits grown to feed families and raise a profit at local markets
