What is SRM

A

Single-pilot resource management

9
Q

What is the critical AOA

A

Aerodynamic constant for an airfoil in a given configuration
The airplane will ALWAYS stall when the critical AOA has been exceeded

Q

What is pressure altitude

A

The height above the standard datum plane
Setting the altimeter to 29.92 will give you the pressure altitude
Know how to calculate it

11
Q

Effects of density altitude

A

When DA is high, less air is moving through the engine and being pushed by the prop thus producing less thrust
Less air is flowing over the wings thus producing less lift
A higher TA will be required to reach Vr increasing T/O roll
TA will be higher than indicated increasing our landing roll
A high DA will have an overall negative impact on performance

Q

Effects of a forward vs aft CG

A

Forward
Stall speed increases
Stall recovery is easier
Cruise AOA is higher
Cruise speed is slower
Less fuel efficient
Stability increases
Maneuverability decreases

Aft
Inverse of forward

Q

What do you need to do before sending a student pilot on a solo XC

20
Q

What is hypoxia

A

A person becomes hypoxic when, for a variety of reasons, their brain and organs have been deprived of oxygen

21
Q

Types of hypoxia

A

Hypoxic
Hypemic
Histotoxic
Stagnant

22
Q

If you’re drunk, would you be more drunk on the ground or in the air

A

I hopefully wouldn’t be flying but you would be much more drunk at altitude than on the ground

23
Q

What is a TFR

A

Temporary flight restriction

24
Q

Can you fly through a TFR

A

If you have the clearance to, yes but otherwise no

25
Q

Do TFRs have a shape

A

Usually they’re circles but they are custom to the situation

26
Q

When are TFR’s not a circle

A

When it would be impractical, like a firefighting TFR

27
Q

What are the different light-gun signals on the ground vs in flight

A
28
Q

What is wake turbulence and how does it behave

A

The wingtip vortices left behind by landing aircraft, most notable when heavy, clean, and slow
They sink (several hundred feet per minute) and move with the wind, it typically takes about 3-5 minutes for them to dissipate

29
Q

What is LAHSO
Do you have to accept it
If you accept it, must you comply with it

A

Land and hold short operations
You are not obligated to accept a LAHSO
You must comply with the clearance upon acceptance unless the safety of flight is threatened

30
Q

Can a student pilot accept LAHSO

A

No

31
Q

What do the weather minimums need to be at in order to accept LAHSO

A
32
Q

VFR day fuel requirements

A

To your destination, and 30 minutes thereafter at cruise fuel burn

33
Q

How do you avoid wake turbulence

A

Land after the preceding aircrafts touch down point
Takeoff before the preceding aircrafts touchdown point
Wait for the vortices to dissipate
Sidestep the runway/approach path

34
Q

Accident vs incident

A
35
Q

Who makes the performance charts we use for our calculations

A

The manufacturer

36

A

Pilot
Plane
Passengers
Plan
Programing

37

A

Pilot (IMSAFE
Aircraft (GAVIATES)
enVironment (WX)
External pressures

38
Q

Hazardous attitudes

A

Macho
Anti-authority
Resignation
Impulsivity
Invulnerability

39
Q

What are some obstacles of teaching and critiquing

A

Weather
Plane availability
Life happens

40
Q

When you give a student a solo endorsement what are some limitations you might add to the endorsement

A

It’s only valid for that day

41
Q

What is positive aircraft control

A

Aviate, navigate, communicate

42
Q

Positive transfer of controls

A

Your controls, my controls, your controls
Verbal, visual, feel

43
Q

What is the difference between max elevation of a VFR chart vs IFR chart

A

VFR is rounded to the nearest 100’
IFR requires 1000’ clearance for non-mountainous terrain and 2000’ clearance for mountainous terrain

44
Q

When is the ILS critical in effect

A

If towered you’ll be asked to hold short
800’ and 2sm

45
Q

Where are you most likely to spin in the traffic pattern with a student

A

Turning base to final

46
Q

If you were to do a go around with a student, how are you going to help your student maintain centerline

A

Remind them that they’re going to need a lot of right rudder
Left turning tendencies are greater at slow airspeed, high AOA configurations such as a go around

47
Q

Is the VFR sectional set to true north

A

Yes

48
Q

How do you convert true course to magnetic course

A
49
Q

What are isogonic lines

A

Lines of magnetic variation, back home it’s -11
