Muscle Tissue Flashcards
What are the three types of muscle tissues
Skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, smooth muscle
What is the function of skeletal muscle ?
Movement of body and generates heat
What are the features of the skeletal muscle?
Multi nucleated, voluntary, striated NOT BRANCHED
Where is skeletal muscle located?
Connects bones ex. Biceps, pectoralis major
What are the functions of the cardiac muscle?
Moves blood and maintains blood pressure
What are the features of the cardiac muscle?
Involuntary, BRANCHED, striated, intercalated disks
What are the intercalated disks of the cardiac muscle?
Special connections between the cardiac muscle
Where is the only place cardiac muscle is found?
The heart
What are functions of the smooth muscle?
Movement of materials along digestive tracts, urine and reproductive secretions
What are the features of smooth muscle?
Involuntary, fusiform (football) shaped, NOT branched, one nuclease in each cell, not striated
Where is smooth muscle located?
Blood vessels, digestive tracts, urinary tract, intestines, uterus
