SFP21 - Methods to study proteins Flashcards

1
Q

How does affinity chromatography work?

A

A ligand molecule with a high binding affinity for the protein to be purified is covalently attached to beads. Protein mixture passes through the column of beads, and the proteins of interest are ‘affinity-purified’.

Q

Why are the beads bound to protein G?

A

Has a high affinity for antibodies so it easier to immobile the antibody onto the beads with protein G
