Question 1

Minimum fuel

An advisory term indicating that in the judgement of the pilot the fuel state is such that no undue delay can be accepted on route to the destination.

Not an emergency situation, but undue delay may result in an emergency.

If priority is required, pilot shall declare an emergency and report fuel in minutes.

Both min and emergency fuel shall be reported when switching controllers.

Conduct of flight

Pilots shall conduct their flights in such a manner to avoid all unacceptable risks as determined by the ORM process. Each pilot must exercise prudent judgement and take proper action (including modifying NATOPS procedures) when dictated by emergencies that endanger life or property.

It is the responsibility of the pilot/crew to A/N/C in that priory throughout all aspects of both routine and unusual circumstances.

The a/c commander shall ensure that a current NATOPS flight manual and/or PCL is carried onboard the a/c and readily available during ground/flight ops. If digital flight manual equivalent is utilized, a suitable backup shall be available (printed or additional device).

Life rafts (Chapter 7)

On overwater flights, the number of persons in an a/c shall not exceed the capacity of the life rafts carried except for op necessity

Amount of personnel needed in flight

Except for emergencies and op necessity, number of persons required for ops such as

Night fam

Inst flying (single piloted)

Shall be limited to those required to properly operate the a/c and accomplish the mission

Simulated emergences that may affect controllability shall not be conducted w/ pax

Battery powered devices

Crew/pax shall not operate electronic/batt powered devices w/o approval of PIC in flight. Cell phones shall not be operated in naval a/c while airborne.

Starting a helo (CNAF)

Rotors shall not be engaged unless area is clear (or signaled clear).

Controls shall be manned by a qualled helo pilot

Pax Briefing

PIC shall ensure flight/pax are adequately instructed on personal safety and survival equipment/procedures for that a/c prior to t/o.

Released from this responsibility while engaged in

1. SAR missions
2. Transporting large troop continuing ends, recon parties, patrols, and outposts during field problems or when no opportunity provided for a/c to be shutdown after embarkation
3. Shipboard ops when landings are precluded

Briefing will be responsibility of cognizant local commander

Question 9

Placing gear for ditching (CNAF)

When a/c must be crashed on either land or water, sudden shifting of cargo/equipment may cause injury/loss of life. All units shall arrange and secure equipment to guard against this.

Emergency gear such as life rafts should be properly stowed for quick availability

Responsibility of PIC.

Question 10

Tobacco products (CNAF)

The use of tobacco products or ecigs in naval a/c is prohibited

Lighters w/ liquid are prohibited

Question 11

Safety belts/shoulder harnesses CNAF

Each persons safety belt and shoulder harness shall be worn and tightened prior to t/o and shall be worn until completion of the flight except when necessary activities require temporary removal.

Number of persons (over 2) embarked on naval a/c shall be restricted to the number for which there are adequate seats and safety belts.

During T/O, Landing, and other times specified by PIC, each person over 2 years of age on board transport a/c shall occupy a seat or berth and be secured w/ safety belt provided for that purpose.

Cabin seating requirements may be eliminated when op environment or a/c config/load reqs dictate for the accomplishment of essential training and ops w/ following guidelines:

1. SPECOPS training/missions
2. Dedicated lifesaving efforts including humanitarian and SAR ops
3. Not to be used for routine op training or personnel transfers. Applies only when tactical/procedural requirements exist for a specific mission or exercise
4. When seats are removed, pax will be restrained by an appropriate alternate means
5. If mission profile requires removal of seats/seatbelts/restraints for one part of mission, pax will if possible use them for all other phases of the mission

Question 12

Walkaround belt warning/note

Warning: Walkaround belts do not provide impact protection, therefore use of those belts shall be restricted to only when mission accomplishment requires persons to be out of their seat. Such belts shall not be worn when strapped into a seat.

Note: Flight personnel leaving seats to open hatch or work near open hatch shall wear approved Walkaround belt during time out of seat
