(7 cards)
What is the brain protected by
Skull
Meninges - protective membrane
List the parts of the brain
Cerebrum Cerebellum Medulla oblongata Hypothalamus Pituitary gland
What does the cerebrum do and where is it
Controls voluntary actions like
Learning and personality
It is split into 2 hemispheres with its outer layer being the cerebral cortex
What is the cerebellum
This controls unconscious functions like balancing and posture
It’s at the back of the brain underneath the occipital lobe
What is the medulla oblongata
This is used in automatic control like heart rate abs breathing
What is the hypothalamus
The regulatory centre for temperature abs water balancing
It is also the main controlling region for the autonomic nervous system
It produces hormones and monitors blood plasmas composition
What is the pituitary gland
Stores and releases hormones that regulate body function
It’s at the base of the hypothalamus
