Newly Reporting Pilots

A

Shall complete an EP and course rules exam, and should complete an EP sim prior to their first flight. The first flight for newly reporting pilots shall be a warm up flight with a current HAC, which includes exposure to local course rules.

A

A

Hot Refueling/crew swap

A

Passengers shall not occupy the aircraft during hot refueling.
During crew swaps the helicopter shall be under the control of a pilot, and there shall be a verbal PIC-to-PIC turnover. New crew begins at step 10 of post engagements.
Personnel shall not proceed aft of countermeasures unless arming/dearming the system, while rotors are turning
Aircrew should brief with the HAC at their scheduled brief time, if aircrew are not present, the HAC shall not taxi until the flight crew brief is complete.

A

Aircraft shall ground taxi vice air taxi to the greatest extent possible whenever the possibilty of damage from rotor wash exists.

Use of Seat Belts

A

Seat and Shoulder harnesses shall be utilized to the maximum extent possible. All occupants of the aircraft shall be in crash worth seats with seatbelts and shoulder harness secured with exception to CVN launches or recoveries, hoist operations, troubleshooting, CSW operation, night forms, CAL/LZ, or other mission specific situations deemed necessary by the PIC.

Flight demonstrations involving other than flyover profiles, are considered aerial demonstrations and requests must be submitted per reference.

Detachment concurrent ops

A

On single spot ships with two manned embarked helicopters utilizing the RSD shall not conduct concurrent flight ops unless an emergency landing site is availble within 50NM for the duration of the evolution.

50NM applies when the parent ship is it intended point of landing, does not apply to fly-ons however prior mission planning shall be conducted and no-go criteria determined.

50NM alternate does not apply to man/unmanned flight ops

Cell Phones

A

Cell phones may be used to check weather or photograph display details for hit checks and to aid in troubleshooting.

On non-tactical events, photography by the PNAC or aircrew is authorized at the discretion of the PIC above safe single engine airspeed, greater than 500’ AGL, with altitude hold and ORM performed.

A

Dipping Ops

A

Establish a steady coupled hover prior to down dome, limit drift to no greater than 2 kts

Cable angle hover mode shall be operable for all dipping sonar operations, submerged override shall not be used for routine operations

Should not be conducted in seas with wave heights exceeding 10’ during unit level training or fleet-level exercises.

During dipping sonar training operations (with or without a submarine) POCL shall be no more than half the ceiling up to 1000’. When ceilings above 1000’, shall be no more than 500’ below the ceiling.

During operational ASW involving a submarine, under conditions that preclude a freestream recovery, then POCL need not be restricted. However ORM shall be conducted to minimize the risk to the transducer assembly in the event of a malfunction.

Dipping ops are prohibited with AFCS degradations affecting automatic approach, coupled hover, or cable angle hover

1177 - cease dipping until maintenance action is performed

If transducer towing limits are exceeded, cease dipping and document on MAF.

While in local area for ULT, a lvl 2 SO shall be in the helicopter on any flight dipping will be conducted.

Hung dome procedures

A

Airboss or HCO should clear the deck, with exception of the minimum number of mx personnel required.

Consideration should be given to securing a mattress or padding to the deck

The aircraft should hover at an appropriate altitude to facilitate recovery.

Conditions will dictate if cable is lowered to the deck or sheered. If placing on deck it shall be grounded.

The cable should be placed in the cabin prior to shutdown

A

During employment of classified systems or tactics, non-government-furbished PEDs and PPEDs are prohibited from being in the aircraft unless secured by a faraday bag.

Body Armor Usage

A

In absence of theater commander guidance, hard body armor shall not be worn on missions over water. All pilots and aircrew shall be briefed on the risks and benefits of soft body armor, use is at the users discretion.

A

Active or passive channels 3&8 shall not be used within 200NM of Hawaiian Islands. RF 1 shall not be used at PMRF.

A

A

Hot refueling with live ordnance loaded (HF, loaded DRL, flares, warshot torps) is prohibited ashore. Hot refueling ashore with chaff or decoy flares may be sunject to local directives. Hellfire are authorized to be carried during hot seats ashore.

A

Aircrews are authorized to conduct multiple approaches and landings with missiles loaded with concurrence of ships CO.

Shipboard straightening, manuevering and traversing with hellfire/catms shall be limited to traverse qualified personnel. Training with CATMSs loaded is prohibited. Downloading warshot missiles shall be conducted prior to any of the above evolutions except in an emergency with specific authorization from ships CO.

A

Passengers shall not be embarked with the GAU-21 installed. If CSW is required, it shall be the M240, and it shall be kept in the inboard stow position, ammo cans secured.

A

In the hawaiian OP area, Class 3B and 4 lasers is permitted only inside Laser target areas. Mission commander may designate an open ocean laser range and act as the Laser Range Safety Officer when using LTM and IZLID with crew served weapons.

Smoke markers

A

Except in emergency, shall not be dropped closer than 10NM from the coastline or inland waterways unless on a designated range or dip area.

Markers that cannot be dearmed, shall be jettisoned outside of 10NM, prior to returning to home base.

Ordnance Carriage

A

With the exception of sonobuoys and smoke markers, carrying live ordnance over populated areas shall be avoided, if a mission requires flight to a facility near a populated area, the most direct route that will minimize civilian exposure shall be used.

When flight over populated areas is expected and a store is loaded, PIU power off procedure shall be conducted for the station on which the store is loaded.

Sonolauncher

A

Removal or replacement of the cover should not be performed with the rotors engaged. If the cover is removed or replaced with rotors turning, two person integrity shall be used.

Cover shall be fastened with all possible bolts, but no less than 11 total. all corner bolts are required, missing bolts shall be documented on MAF.

Flight line procedures

A

Crews shall utilize a blue light at night to avoid confusion with LSE.

Eye, hearing, and head protection in the hangars and on the flight line.
Single hearing protection within 200’ of aircraft with rotors turning, or 50’with APU. Double hearing is required within 30’ of aircraft with rotors turning or APU for extended periods of time. Double hearing is not required in the aircraft.

No one shall climb on top unless both engines are secured (does not include engine motoring with fuel and ignition secured). If only APU, requires permission from PIC. If B/U pump is on care must be taken when moving flight controls.

All personnel shall wear a cranial or helmet with strap fastened whenever climbing on any part of the aircraft, unless it restricts the proper accomplishment of the task.

All personnel shall enter the rotor arc at the 3 and 9 oclock position. Shall not enter while pilots are entering or exiting the cockpit. No one shall enter or exit the arc unless the rotor system is at 100% or both engines are secured.

Post flight procedures

A

The PIC shall ensure the aircraft goes through the Helo Rinse after its last flight of the day, shipboard ops, after coupled approaches, or after flights involving 10/10 or 15/0 approaches and notify maintenance if unable.
The PIC shall not go through the helo rinse if the SO window is not installed, the cabin door will not close, the cargo hook access panel is not installed, or CATM is installed. Additionally CATMs and CMDS buckets should be downloaded following SUW events to permit use of HRF.

All newly reporting PQMs shall complete their first 60 hour engine cleaning at HSM-37 under the supervision of a HAC.

During ship and shore ops, all cowlings, covers, and access panels shall be closed and latched whenever jet blast, prop wash, wind or rotor wash could cause damage. Shall not be left unattended in the open position and shall be closed and latched when not performing maintenance or preflight inspections. When opening the hyds bay, securing straps should be utilized. At sea, a minimum of two people are required to open or close the hyds bay, while only one is required while the securing straps are installed.

RAS / Ships firing

A

Aircraft should be airborne or in the hangar during all ship weapons firing evolutions.

For RAS evolutions consideration should be given to hangaring the aircraft, if not airborne, when shot lines are being fired from the replenishment ship in the vicinity of the flight deck.

Post Install Dips

A

Post installation dips from shore shall be conducted in an area with no more than 2000 feet water depth to facilitate recovery efforts in the event of a lost transducer.

Blade fold spread

A

The aircrafts automatic blade-fold system shall be the primary means of folding or spreading the main rotorhead underway and ashore. Pilots that have not performed a spread/fold evolution shall not fold the blades until they have performed it under the supervision of a HAC or qualified squadron AE.

Ordnance at sea

A

At sea, all detachments shall complete at least one torpedo and missile load per month.

EP’s

A

Simulated emergencies shall only be introduced under the cognizance of a HAC.

Compound emergencies involving the degradation of two or more unrelated systems shall not be introduced, initiated or practiced.

No circuit breakers shall be pulled to initiate a simulated emergency. HACs may pull the batt bus panel circuit breaker in order to simulate failed backup attitude indicator during day/VFR conditions only.

Pilot and copilot radar altimeter indicators shall be operable for practice autorotations. Minimum altitudes 500’ straight in, 800’ 90, 1000’ 180.

Simulated engine failures from a HOGE shall only be initiated over a surface where a run on landing can be made. HACs shall ensure proper preflight calcs are performed, to include consideration of factors such as DA, GW, winds, and Power available vs power required.

Prohibited Manuevers

A

Practice autos at night are prohibited. In addition, simulated emergencies requiring the actual degradation of the aircraft at night are prohibited with the following exceptions:

Single-engine approaches and landings to a prepared surface with adequate overrun and underrun to allow for safe execution.

Single engine running landings

BOOST OFF and failed SAS/AFCS

Simulated Lost ICS

Stab automode failure.

H2P/H2P Flights

A

Simulated emergencies, movement of PCLs from the FLY position, night coupled approaches, and 180 degree practice autos are prohibited. Shipboard 2p/2p flights may be scheduled by OICs with the permission of squadron and ship COs and shall be conducted as day, VMC non-tactical training flights.

CAL / LZ

A

A power available check shall be conducted at the planned landing altitude before commencing the approach. The MRP versus maximum power required shall be 10 percent or greater to proceed with the approach. Operation CAL/LZ flights other than those of operational necessity shall adhere to this power margin.

Night LZ’s black and pu’u kapu

Night LZ training shall be conducted with 2 aircrewman. CALs shall have 2 aircrewman and are prohibited at night.

A

Currency is 120 days. Currency is maintained either by flying NVD TACFORM, or NVD formation. Currency may be regained by flying NVD TACFORM with a current NVD TACFORM PIC.
