Electrics Flashcards
Where are the pantographs located?
No. 2 end on Mc
What is in the High Voltage Container?
HSCB / Earthing switch
BCU
(Same as Auxiliary Container on TCar)
What do the HSCB do?
Disconnects traction equipment from overheads when there is a current oversupply.
What does the Traction Inverter do?
Converts 1500vDC to 3 Phase variable AC for use by traction motors
What does the TCU do?
Receives signals from MCH to control power, braking and holding brake
What happens if there is a defective traction motor?
Self-isolated. Driver just reports fault
What do SIVs do?
Convert 1500vDC to 400v AC to power BATH
(on exam ‘T’ may be TCU or fan)
And further step down transformer produces 240vAC for GPOs
What happens if one SIV fails?
All equipment still works but AC at 50% capacity
What does the battery charger power?
Everything that is train lined - 110vDC
What do the Batteries power? (4)
Initialising start up systems
Raising pantographs
Step light
Desk light
When loss of overhead or if both SIVs fail they will supply power for limited amount of time.
How do you raise pantographs?
Key in and on
Park brakes applied
Wait until all buzzers have stopped
Press Panto UP
Observe they have gone up
What happens to indicator lights when pantographs have raised?
Extinguish - Panto Up Button
Illuminates- Line Voltage
How can you lower pantographs? (2)
Stable Button
Pantograph Down Button
How do you lower the pantographs via Stable button?
Master key OUT
Press STABLE
Observe pantos down and Line Voltage light extinguished
Where is the Pantograph crank handle?
RHS door 2 of DM car. (not immediately RHS, next one down)
No. 2 End
