Clinical signs of swine vesicular disease?

A

!! Do not loose condition as in ruminants Foot and mouth disease

  • Mild fever: with or without clinical signs
  • Formation of vesicles on snout, lips and coronary band, interdigital space, tongue and throat
  • Lameness
  • Young pigs are more seriously affected but do not die

A
  • Diagnosis and history: difficult to differentiate between other vesicular diseases
  • Sample from vesicles- RT-PCR
  • Serological tests- check for Ab by VNT, ELISA- check for Ab or Ag

A

No treatment. Slaughter in highly infected areas! NB! 3 km protective zone.
