Water and Air Flashcards

1
Q

Why is water important?

A
  • Maintains cell hydration
  • Assists in the removal of toxins, sweat, tears, urine and faeces
  • Major component of bodily fluids e.g. cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, cytoplasm, and blood plasma

Q

Why is osmosis important?

A

Important for cellular function as it allows water and other dissolved fluids to move across a semi-permeable membrane. It is also important as water needs to move in and out of our body cells to maintain equilibrium of solutes and fluids.
