Present Simple Use

A
  • something that is true in the present:
    I’m nineteen years old.
    I’m a student.
    He lives in London.
  • something that happens regularly in the present (habbits)
    I play football every weekend.
  • something that is always true:
    Earth travels around the sun.
  • When we are describing an event (footbal match)
    Ron passes to Jim, he shoots and scores.
  • For the schedule
    The film starts at 10 o’clock.

1.1. repeated actions
My friend often draws nice posters.

1.2. things in general
The sun rises in the east.

1.3. fixed arrangements, scheduled events
The plane flies to London every Monday.

1.4. sequence of actions in the present
First I get up, then I have breakfast.

1.5. with special verbs
I understand English.

A
  • activities at the moment of speaking:
    I am playing a video game now.
  • future plans or arrangements:
    I am seeing a doctor on wednesday.
    I am seeing John tonight.
  • for something that is temporary (a little time)
    Beth is staying with some friends until her parents return from their business trip)
  • bad habit that is annoying and is happening constantly
    I am always losing my keys. It is so annoying!
