61.3 - What certificates, ratings and authorizations required
- Valid pilot certificate
- Government issued photo ID
- Valid medical certificate of the appropriate class
61.15 - Alcohol and drugs
Must report to the FAA any motor vehicle action involving drugs &/or alcohol within 60 days of the action
61.17 - temporary certificate
Expires after 120 days of issuance or upon receipt of permanent certificate
61.23 - Medical certificate requirement and duration
Exercise ATP certificate - first class medical - 12 months if < age 39
6 months if >age 40
Exercise Commercial certificate - Second class medical - 12 months
61.29 - Replacement of lost or destroyed pilot certification or medical
Must request in writing to the FAA and must carry for 60 days
61.51 - Pilot logbooks
Must log in a manner acceptable to the administrator only that time necessary to meet requirements for a certificate or rating OR to meet recent flight experience requirements of this part.
61.57 - Recent flight experience
Remember day and night TO&L requirements to carry passengers.
For turbine power and certificated for more than one pilot - pilot must meet the day TO&L requirements.
PLUS - PIC has more than 1500 hrs as pilot
Plus - PIC has 15 hrs in type within the previous 90 days
PIC or SIC under IFR - Remember HIT 66
61.60 - Change of address
Must inform the FAA of permanent change of address within 30 days of move
91.3 - Responsibility of PIC
Final authority and responsibility of the operation of A/C
May deviate from regulation to meet emergency
Upon request from the Administrator, must respond in writing to the FAA
91.13 - Careless or reckless operation
Must not endanger persons or property
91.17 - Alcohol and drugs
Do not attempt to act (preflight) as a crew member when -
1. BAC is .04 or greater
2. Within 8 hrs of drinking
3. Under the influence (hangover)
4. Using any drug that affects the persons faculties in any way.
91.103 - Preflight action
PIC must become familiar with all information -
1. WX reports
2. Known traffic delays
3. Runway lengths at airports
4. Available alternates
5. Fuel requirements
6. TO&L data
91.105 - Crewmember at station
Crewmember must have seatbelt fastened during TO&L and during enroute
91.113 - Right of way rules
Aircraft in distress has right of way
2 aircraft converging, the one to the right shall have right of way
2 aircraft landing, the lower one shall have right of way, however, they will not use this to cut the other off.
91.117 - Max aircraft speed
<10,000’ MSL- 250 kts
</= 2500 AGL (within 4 NM of C/D airport) - 200 kts
Underlying class B / VFR corridor - 200 kts
HOLDING - 6,000’ MSL and lower - 200 kts
6,001 - 14,000’ MSL - 230 kts
14,000’ MSL and higher - 265 kts and 1.5 min inbound leg
