Explain freeze, control, preserve
FREEZE: freeze the scene so that it remains in the condition in which it was found.
CONTROL: people at the scene and those attempting to leave or arrive
PRESERVE: any evidence at the scene that may be destroyed or start to decay in some way
Explain the responsibilities as a scene guard in freezing, controlling, preserving
Preventing unauthorized people entering the scene.
Record details in your notebook of anyone entering the scene
Briefing authorized people
Promptly record and report any suspicious activity

What is the important information to consider when en-route to a scene
Obtain:
A description of the suspect
A description of the suspect’s vehicle (if any)
The suspects direction of travel
A description of any weapons carried
Watch for any vehicles that may have come from the scene, note the Rego
Plan where to park your vehicle and designate this as the Safe Forward Point (SFP)
Form a plan for initial actions upon arrival - discuss areas of responsibility with your partners, decide who will deal with any possible suspects/victims and how
What information is to be included in a SITREP (situation report)
Keep comms informed of any changes at the scene and any action required
Include info that could help locate the offender
Advice what assistance is needed
Use your phone/radio in private if possible
Be wary of giving particulars over the radio
Provide the location of the SFP
What info should be obtained from an informant on arrival at a scene
Locate the informant and obtain brief facts if safe to do so
Ask the informant to identify the victim and/or offender
If offender isn’t present, their direction of travel and details of the vehicle
Ask the informant the location of the scene
If possible ask them to remain in a specified place and explain they may need to be interviewed more fully later

CAP is a path for all movement into and out of a scene. It avoids any route possibly taken by the suspects or the victim.
It maintains the integrity of the scene and ensures you don’t destroy exhibits or contaminate evidence
