Q

lignocaine

A

-amide local anaesthetic agent, composed of a lipophilic aromatic group and a hydrophilic amine group joined by an amide link (NH-CO)
-Local anaesthetic agents act on the intracellular portion of the voltage-gated sodium channel where a blockade prevents the spread of action potentials in excitable cells

Q

special about lignocaine

A

-Lignocaine has both local anaesthetic and anti-arrhythmic properties.
- Lignocaine is a class 1b anti-arrhythmic agent, blocking the voltage-gated sodium channel in the cardiac cell.
-Class 1b agents shorten the repolarization phase of the action potential, reducing re-entry phenomena, and are used for their membrane stabilizing effects in the management of ventricular arrhythmias.
