advantages

A
  • time saving: quicker to pass and amend that an Act of Parliament, which must be debated and passed by both houses
  • policy over detail: better for Parliament to focus on wider issues of policy than detail
  • speed: allows for a quick response in an emergency

disadvantages

A
  • undemocratic: gives power to individuals and takes the decisions away from the democratic process
  • rick of sub delegation: legislation is made by people other than those who were given power initially
  • lack of publicity: tends not to be under the same public scrutiny
