What did Wilhelm Wundt establish Psychology as?
A science
What approach to Psychology did Wundt found?
Define
Structuralism - (in this case) consciousness can be broken down into its basic elements
What is introspection
A research technique developed by Wundt, involves self analysis of thoughts.
What are some examples of stimuli/experiments that Wundts participants responded to
Images, auditory tones.
He tried to measure the speed of thought - actual vs percieved position of pendulum
Did Wundt believe that all behaviours could be studied using introspection?
No, he later concluded that language, learning and emotion could not be studied in a lab due to unreliable self reports and inconsistent results . Instead he acknowledged that these behaviours could be described in general trends amongst groups of people.
What did Wundt call the field of psychology investigating behaviours that couldn’t be studied in a lab. E.g. emotions, language, learning.
