Q

What do Christians believe about the beginning of the universe?

A

God created everything for a purpose (some believe in literally six days.) They believe humans were made different from animals “in the image of God”. Creationists take a literal view of the bible stories and believe Eve was really made from Adams rib. Most Christians take non-literal views and understand the world was likely not made in six days.
Some Christians believe that the Big Bang could not have happened by accident and that the universe existing as an accident is as improbable as a tornado blowing through a junkyard and assembling a plane. This is known as INTELLIGENT DESIGN.

Q

What does science teach about the beginning of the universe?

A

The world was created in billions of years not six days. The universe was caused by a Big Bang, radiation from this has been detected in the atmosphere. Stephen Hawking used quantum physics to prove that the universe could’ve been created from nothing. Humans evolved through natural selection. Eve was not created from Adams rib. Darwin created the theory of evolution.

Q

Definition of euthanasia.

A

Helping someone who wants to die to die peacefully and with dignity. Gentle death/ mercy killing.

20
Q

What does Christianity teach about euthanasia?

A

Christianity has arguments both allowing and against euthanasia. Some arguments In order to allow euthanasia are: God gave people dominion over the Earth and they should be able to make the decision that euthanasia may be the right thing to do. People have been given free will and are able to make educated choices to end their own lives. However others argue euthanasia is wrong this is because: God might have sent suffering for a purpose and we should learn from it rather than avoid it, every person is made in God’s image including the disabled and the ill and therefore should be valued.

21
Q

More Christian arguments allowing euthanasia.

A

God is love and stopping suffering is a loving thing to do. God would want people to have quality of life and if they don’t then euthanasia may be an option. Jesus said “love your neighbour as you love yourself “euthanasia is lovely if you save your neighbour from pain misery. Christian called Anne Turner went to Switzerland to kill herself as she had PSP-she would have ended up unable to move speak or even blink and would had died a painful death.

22
Q

More Christians arguments against euthanasia.

A

The Bible says “the human body is the temple of the Holy Spirit “. This means that God lives in people. The Bible also says “thou shall not murder.” God will not test us beyond our strength and will help us endure testing this means he’s allowed people to suffer will help them endure pay. The Bible says “in his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being “-this suggests that I’ve belongs to God and that we should not take it.

23
Q

What does Islam teach about euthanasia?

A

Euthanasia is not allowed Because Muslims believe that Allah decides when a person dies. The Quran says “no one dies unless Allah permits. The time of every life is fixed”. Allah has already decided how long everyone is to live it’s not for the individual to decide.Euthanasia is Suicide and suicide is forbidden. Muhammad taught that “whoever commits suicide with something will be punished with that same thing in hellfire “. Allahs plan for your life May involve suffering and only Allah knows the true reasons for suffering because it is sent as a test. Any person asking to die is claiming to know better than Allah that they are ready for death.

24
Q

What do Muslims believe about life after death?

A

Muslims believe that everything they do in their life is recorded and will be used as evidence on the day of judgement. On the day of judgement good deeds must outweigh the bad deeds. If you are righteous of paradise the you will cross the bridge of as-Sirat into paradise (Jannah) and the unrighteous will fall off the bridge into Hell (Jahannam). Muslims call this eternal life AKHIRAH.

25
Q

What will happen on the day of judgement?

A

Angell Israeli will blow a trumpet to signal the end of the world and then the Angell Azrial will collect the souls of the dead. Each person will be asked three questions by the Angels Munkar and Nakir: who is your Lord? Who is your profit? What is your religion? Angels Raqid and Atib have recorded a persons deeds and their beliefs in a book. If you receive this book in your right hand you go to heaven, if you receive this book in your left hand you go to hell. Some Shia m,slims believe that as well as souls being resurrected, a persons physical body shall be too.

26
Q

What is heaven (Jannah) like?

A

In the Quran Paradise is described as a beautiful garden with rivers of milk and honey, fruits, flowers and fountains. “Those who believe and do righteous deeds are the best creatures. Their reward is with the Lord- gardens of Eden, underneath which rivers flow, but they shall dwell forever. Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with him. This is for those who fear the Lord.”

27
Q

What is Hell (Jahannam) like?

A

Hell is described as a terrifying place of torment. Muslims believe there are 7 layers to hell, each varying in torment and pain. Some Muslims believe that once a person has been purified in hell they will be allowed into paradise.

28
Q

What do Christians believe about life after death?

A

Christians believe in eternal life and that in the future God will call the day of judgement and everyone will be judged and sent either to eternal life in heaven or to eternal torment in hell. Christians believe that each person will be given a new body after the day of judgement they call this the resurrection. Christians believe that Jesus was resurrected and that because he lived after death we all have the gift of eternal life.

29
Q

How do christians believe you get into heaven?

A

Christian beliefs about how you get into heaven vary; some think you must believe in Jesus: “they That believe in me will live, even though they die “. Others think that you have to live a good life and “feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, clothe the naked “ (in the parable of the sheep and the goat).

30
Q

Bible quote about resurrection.

A

“The body that is sown is perishable; it is raised imperishable “. This shows that the physical body rots whilst the new heavenly body lives forever.
