Q

What are the 4 phases of tissue healing?

A
  1. Hemostasis: Stopping of blood (the storm)
  2. Inflammatory Response: (immediate aftermath of storm)
  3. Proliferation/fibroblastic (clean up and repair or connective tissue)
  4. Remodeling/maturation phase (restoration)

Q

What is Hemostasis and when does it occur?

A
  1. Occurs during the initial reaction to injury.
  2. Def: Stoppage of blood flow to the area.
  3. Vasoconstriction.
  4. Initiation of histamine
    - Increases cell permeability (ability of substance to pass through it.)
    - Allows white blood cells to enter

Q

What are platelets?

A
  1. Cell fragments in our blood that form clots to stop or prevent bleeding.
  2. Cytokines: Regulate immune response.
  3. Release phospholipids: Stimulating clot formation.
