Lecture 07-08 Flashcards

1
Q

Q

How does the tolerances of benzos work

A

overtime the body will notice the high levels of GABAa receptors working and will modify gene expression to stop producing as many receptors, which thus causes a result ina. reduction of overall Chlorine channel openings

Q

benzo withdrawl

A

due to tolerance issues overtime, benzos are needed to maintain and keep the same level, less inhintion of anxiety-evoking thoughts and events

Q

How do barbiturates work

A

Posituve allosteric modualtion of GABAa, with additional antagonism of NMDA NA+ channels
at high doses can stimulate GABAa recptors directly
