What are the conditions needed for SHM?

A

The resultant force and acceleration always acts towards the equilibrium. Also the force is proportional to the negative displacement.

When is the max kinetic and potential energy during SHM?

A

Max potential at the extremes of motion where Ek = 0 and v=0 and x=A, max kinetic when at equilibrium and so x=0, v=Vmax. Also Ek+Ep = const

When does resonance occur?

A

When the driving frequency matches the natural frequency of the free oscillator the driving force is vibrating. It causes a large amplitude due to matching frequencies.

What is damping?

A

Damping is where the oscillator is restricted in it’s amplitude due to a resistive force causing the amplitude to decrease exponentially over time so follows cos(x)sin(x)e^(-x)
