Connective Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

What are the functions of connective tissue?

A

• to provide structural support, such as for burns and cartilage in the skeletal system, and areola tissue, which one is tissues like skin and muscle
• to protect-the school protects the brain, and the ribs protects the heart and lungs
• to transport substances in the blood
• to insulate( how do you poo is a tissue contains fatty deposits to help to prevent heat loss)

Q

Where is the location of blood tissues?

A

Blood tissues are found inside the blood vessels, arteries, arterioles, capillaries, and veins, and also within the chambers of the heart

Q

What is plasma?

A

Liquid cooled plasma makes up about half of the content of the blood. Plasma contains proteins that help blood clot, transport substances through the blood, and perform other functions.

Q

What are monocytes?

A

Monocytes or another type of white blood cell, but can leave the circulatory blood vessel to travel to the side of an infection. Good at phagocytosis.

Q

Describe the structure of cartilage

A

• smooth, translucent, firm substance
• does not contain blood vessels, but nourished by diffusion from the bone
• the extra cellular matrix is secreted by cartilage cells cord chondrocytes and is firm but flexible

16
Q

Explain the structure of bone cells(also known as osteocytes)

A

Osteocytes are trapped in a hard extracellular matrix centric rings, called lamella. Lamella contains blood vessels and nerves. Lots of these rings is called haversian system

17
Q

What is the bone structure?

A

• very hard, but can be worn away with friction and it is made of calcium salts and collagen fibres

18
Q

What is the function of the skeleton?(bones) spamb

A

• support: keeps body up, right
• protection: to organs
• attachment: mineral storage
• blood production

19
Q

Where is areola found?

A

•binds the outer layers of the skin to the muscles beneath
•around blood vessels, nerves, and the organs of the body

20
Q

Describe the structure of areolar

A

• sticky, white material that binds muscle groups
• it’s matrix is semi fluid and contains collagen fibres and elastic fibres

21
Q

What is the function of areolar?

A

Offers a form of support and protection to the tissues around it

22
Q

Where is adipose tissue found?

A

Beneath the skin, but is also found around internal organs such as the heart

23
Q

Describe the structure of adipose

A

• variation of areolar tissue, jelly like extra cellular matrix
• Consists of cells containing lipids

24
Q

What is the function of adipose?

A

• store energy to be used by the body if needed
• cushion and protects organs
•insulates the body
