-by 70s 35-45 percent black families classed as middle class
-affirmative action however this = backlash

-in 1975 fed judge tried to protect black officers went against last hired first fired policy =police riot
-80=median b househod income was only 60 of white household
-1/3 of ba had low skilled jobs and avergae earnings half white people
-black male teenage unemployment 50%
-life expectancy remained 6 years lower
-economic issues =race riots =sixteen dead over 400 injured and 100 mil property damage

-equal access to most public places. and the 64 act mandated the acceleration of school desegregation and by 74 the % of seg schools in south was down from 68-8 percent
-rising number of AA from high school=economic opportunities. in 70 31 percent of AA and 55 percent wa aged over 25 hsd completed 4 or more years high school. by 1980 51 percent and 69 percent had done so
-in Swann v charlotte-Mecklenburg 71 sc specified busing of black and white children to each others schools as a way to achieve racially mixed schools

-Boston public schools clearly seperate and unequal= in 65 25 percent ba were students 0.5% were teachers and none were principles
-in june 1974 court found boston guilty =busing=ROAR=attacked glass of bus was smashed =transferred to all white private schools=Boston public schools had 45,000 white students in 74 but 16,000 in 87
-1968 fair housing act equality could not be legislated =integrationist policies were resisted by wp i house transactions
-congress approved anti-busing leg
ghetto health and life poor black child twice as likely to die before reaching one 4 times more likely to be murdered and 2x drop out school
