Connective tissue (loose/proper), Cartilage, bone, and blood
What are the 5 functions of connective tissue?
Binding and supporting, protecting, insulating, storing reserve fuel, and transporting substances
What are the 2 defining characteristics of connective tissue?
Connective tissue is largely composed by a non-living extracellular matrix that is very strong. Connective tissue also originated from an embryonic tissue called mesenchyme.
What is the extracellular matrix composed of?
The ground substance and fibers.
What are the strongest fibers of connective tissue?
Collagen Fibers
What is the purpose of elastic fibers?
They will retain the initial shape of the tissue. They will snap the tissue back into place.
What are reticular fibers made of? How does this differ from collagen fibers?
They are made of a softer form of collagen that forms delicate nets around capillaries and soft tissue. They allow more stretch than the big collagen fibers.
What is considered the packing material of the body?
Loose areolar connective tissue
What are the two types of connective tissue proper? What are the three subdivision of each?
Loose (areolar, adipose, reticular) and dense (regular, irregular, and elastic)
Where is adipose tissue found?
In the hypodermis, breasts teehee
Where is loose reticular tissue found? What is its purpose?
lymphoid organs (lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow). It is a soft skeleton that holds cells such as macrophages and white blood cells.
Where is the dense regular connective tissue found mostly?
Tendons and Ligaments
Why are regular dense and irregular dense tissue in different areas?
regular dense tissue is very strong in one direction, but irregular dense tissue is strong in all directions as it is a web of collagen fibers.
Where is dense elastic connective tissue found?
In walls of large arteries, and the walls of bronchial tubes.
What type of tissue is formed of chondrocytes?
Cartilege
