  1. Selective= choose what we want to experience (selective perception), selective attention (tune in based on needs + wants), selective exposure (select what were exposed too), selective recall (choose what we remember).
  2. Organizing= we create categories (familiar pattern), link categories (punctuation), seek closure (fill missing info)
  3. Interpreting= assign meaning, try to make sense of what we hear/see
