What is Intersectionality ?
Analytic approaches that consider the meaning and consequences of multiple categories of social group member
What is social postioning ?
Describes an individual’s world view and the position they adopt about a research task and its social and political context
What is reflexivity ?
Notion that researchers affect the research they’re doing
What is a hypotheses ?
Something that can be tested in research
What is a hypothetical construct ?
term for abstract concepts like “empathy” and “prejudice”
What are operational definitions ?
Concrete representations of hypothetical contructs that allow researchers to observe those contructs indirectly rather than directly
What are predictions ?
Restate hypotheses in terms of operational definitions
What is reliability ?
Its consistency in providing essentially the same result each time it is used with the same person
What is validity ?
Refers to its accuracy
What are self-report measures ?
Asking people about their attitudes, opinions, and behaviours and then recording what they say
What are unobstrusive methods ?
They give the impression that they have nothing to do with prejudice or that they are unrelated to the research study taking place
What are implicit cognition measures ?
Assess the degree to which concepts are associated with one another in memory
What is the correlation research strategy ?
Researchers measure 2 or more variables and look for relationship among them
What is survey research ?
Respondants answer questions designed to assess their attitudes, beliefs, opinions, behaviours, and personality traits
What is sampling ?
How researchers find people to answer their questions
