A
  • Chronic illnesses resulting in multiple healthcare visits,
  • Living in crowded conditions,
  • Prior antibiotic use,
  • History of MRSA

How can a patient be screened for MRSA?

A
  • Nasal swab (wiped around inside of nose for 5 seconds) and skin swab. Then sent to micro labelled ‘MRSA screen’

How can you suppress MRSA once a carrier is identified?

A
  • In the nose you can use mupirocin 2% for 5 days
  • Clorhexidine gluconate wash for 5 days
