What are three viral diseases?
Measles, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), TMV (tobacco mosaic virus)
Name a fungal diseases.

Name a disease caused by a protist.

What are the symptoms of measles?
Symptoms: total body rash (three days after infection) and flu-like symptoms (fever).
What are complications caused by measles?
Serious infections can lead to pneumonia (lung infection) or inflammation of the brain, these can cause blindness, brain damage and even death
Transmission of measles
highly contagious, spread by droplets from infected person’s cough’s or sneeze’s
Medical response to measles (drug, cures, vaccines etc)
MMR vaccine prevents infection (people are often vaccinated when very young), there is no cure however painkillers can be prescribed.
What are the symptoms of HIV?
Initially flu symptoms for a few weeks
What does HIV attack?
Immune cells
What are the complications of HIV?
If the immune system is badly damaged, it can’t cope with other infections or cancers. Then the virus is known as AIDS/late stage HIV infection
How is HIV transmitted?
sexual contact or exchanging bodily fluids (blood - sharing needles when taking drugs)
What are medical responses to HIV?
Antiretroviral drugs stop the virus from replicating in the body
What are symptoms of TMV?
it causes a mosaic pattern on leaves and discolouration
How is TMV transmitted?
Direct contact
