Who was Marie Rambert?

A

Born 1888 - Died 1982\
1904 she saw isadora duncan and was inspired, went to med school whilst continuing her dancing
1910 went to see Jacques Dalcroze’s School of Eurthymics in Geneva
1912 Joined Ballet Russe to tech Eurthymics for 1 year
1918 She married the english playwrite Ashley Dukes who supported their works throughout their 41 year marriage
1920 opened her own school of Dancing

Why did modern dance begin in britan

A
  • Dancers started to be trained in Ballet and Modern ( Graham)
  • In 1966 LSOCD and in 1967 LSOCT were responsible for the developmet of modern dance
  • Robin Howard invited Robert Cohan who was a Graham Dancers to help choreograph and teach modern dance across england but then got influenced by Cunningham Technique with more abstract movement
