What is determinism ?
The general idea that traits and behaviours are outside of our control, and due to internal or external factors over which we have no control
What is biological determinism ?
The idea that traits and behaviours are governed by internal biological factors like genes, neurochemistry, brain structure and function.
What is psychic determinism ?
The idea that traits and behaviours are governed by unconscious instincts and drives, the cause of behaviour is rooted due to unconscious conflicts in childhood
What is environmental determinism ?
The idea that traits and behaviours are governed by external forces such as experiences, upbringing and learning
What is hard determinism ?
Traits and behaviours are entirely out of an individuals control
What is soft determinism ?
Our behaviour is largely determined by factors outside of our control, but we have some degree of choice
