Pancreatic duct
Dust of Wirsung. The primary duct leading from the acini of the pancreas, conducts pancreatic juice out of the pancreas and into the duodenum via the sphincter of Oddi
Accessory duct
Duct of Santorini. A smaller pancreatic duct, opening onto the duodenum, is a bit superior to the sphincter of Oddi
Hepatopancreatic ampulla
A swelling at the junction of the pancreatic duct and the common bile duct. Just proximal to the sphincter of Oddi
Sphincter of Oddi
Ring of smooth muscle guarding the passage of pancreatic juice and bile into the duodenum
Duodenal papilla
A raised “bump” along the mucosa of the duodenum where the hepatopancreatic ampulla dumps out into the duodenum
Common bile duct
distal to the junction of the cystic duct and the common hepatic duct. It joins with the pancreatic duct at the hepatopancreatic ampulla
Cystic duct
carries bile from the gall bladder to join with the hepatic duct to form the common bile duct
Common hepatic duct
coveys bile from the left and right hepatic ducts to join with the cystic duct (carrying bile), to form the common bile duct
Falciform ligament
A mesenteric fold (so part of the mesenteries/omenta) extending inferiorly from the diaphragm to run between the two lobes of the liver, suspending the liver from the diaphragm
Round ligament
Running within the falciform ligament, it is actually a remnant of the fetal umbilical cord!
Coronary ligament
Folds of the parietal peritoneum that extend inferiorly from the diaphragm to suspend the liver
Fundus
the rounded, most inferior portion of the gall bladder
Body
The central, largest region of both the gall bladder and the pancreas
Neck
Constricted portion of the gall bladder between the body and the distal cystic duct
Tail
Most leftward extension of the pancreas - extending towards the spleen
