1
Q

hydrometeors

A

an all-catch term for any product of condensation or deposition of atmospheric water vapor
ie, rain, sleet, hail, snow…

Q

virga

A

evaporating rain drops as they fall into very dry air (low specific humidity and warmer)
this is because as soon as a rain drop begins to fall it enters unsaturated aur and will evaporate as it falls

Q

sleet

A

solid precip that melts as it enters warmer air, but enters air below 0 Before hitting the ground giving it enough time to freeze

Q

hail

A

frozen precipitation (ice balls) that form due to a strong updraft.
the ice crystals are continuously pulled back up into the cloud and grow during violent thunderstorms
falls either because the mass becomes heavier than the updraft or the hail drifts to an area with a down draft

Q

what is cloud seeding?

A

a method used to induce precip via springing dry ice or silver iodide in clouds
the introduce molecules act as condensation nuclei and promote precip

Q

what is EMR

A

the transmission of energy in the form of wavelengths. the wavelengths are formed due to electrons jumping valence shells in a source molecule.

Q

what is a unique property of EMR

A

it can move through vacuum space, meaning these waves can travel in the absence of particles. this means is does not require mole-mole contact
