Originally clear

  1. Add a few drops of starch solution
  2. Add several drops of iodine

If Starch is present the solution turns blue black

A

Originally blue

  1. Add 2cm (cubed) of glucose solution
  2. Add 2cm (cubed) of Benedict’s solution
  3. Place in boiling water and leave for approximately 5 mins

If present turns orange or red

1. Add 2cm (cubed) of protein solution)
2. Add 2cm (cubed) of sodium hydroxide solution
3. Add a couple of drops of copper sulphate solution, and shake
This should make the solution blue

If present turns violet
