Q

How does heat travel by conduction, convection and radiation?

A

In CONVECTION, heat energy is carried by the movement of particles of matter. In CONDUCTION, heat is transferred by particles vibrating. In RADIATION, heat is carried directly by electromagnetic waves.

17
Q

what is the job of the sclera?

A

helps to protect the eye and maintain the shape of the eyeball

18
Q

What is it about an object that allows us to see it as a colour?

A

Some objects reflect more of a certain wavelength of light than others

19
Q

What are the rules of reflection?

A

1) The incident ray, reflected ray and normal lie on the same plane. 2) Angle of incidence is equal to angle of reflection

20
Q

Why do objects under coloured lights appear different colours than normal?

A

Because the object reflects more than one colour of light

21
Q

How do images appear in mirrors?

A

When the mirror reflects light, it forms an image.

22
Q

Where do images appear in mirrors?

A

The same distance the object is from the mirror it is looking into the mirror

23
Q

How can light be refracted?

A

Light refracts whenever it travels at an angle into a substance with a different refractive index.

24
Q

How does refraction change things in our lives?

A

with out refraction our vision would be a blur

25
Q

what problems can UV cause?

A

UV can cause bad eyesight, premature aging and wrinkly skin. Sunburn which can lead to skin cancer.

26
Q

what is UV?

A

A form of electromagnetic radiation that has shorter wavelengths then visible light

27
Q

How can we stop UV causing problems?

A

Limit time in sun, Slip slop slap and wrap, stay in shade, always use sunscreen.

28
Q

What is the difference between elements and compounds?

A

Elements are made from one atom. Compounds are formed by two or more types of elements.

29
Q

An atom’s basic structure?

A

An arrangement of protons, neutrons and electrons
