16
Q

when you have a thrombus in the IVC, if acute, what does it look like?

A

dark (if new)
more echogenic (if older)

17
Q

what is the purpose of an IVC filter?

A
  • filters out a blood clot
  • usually put in the distal IVC
  • made of metal, so it is echogenic on US
18
Q

hepatofugal

A

shows blood moving away from the liver, and appears as blue.

19
Q

hepatopetal

A

shows blood moving toward the liver, and appears as red.

20
Q

if you have a portal with hepatoFUGAL flow, what is the most common reason/diagnosis?

A

portal hypertension or cirrhosis

21
Q

what is the most common cause for portal hypertension?

A

poor liver function, or an obstruction

22
Q

what is the most common pathology with portal hypertension?

A

cirrhosis

23
Q

what is the most common cause of cirrhosis?

A

alcoholism

24
Q

which vessel carries the most nutrients to the liver?

A

portal veins

25
Q

what does the portal triad (mickey mouse sign) made up of?

A

1) common bile duct
2) main portal vein
3) hepatic artery

26
Q

what is a mycotic aneurysm?

A

an aneurysm caused from an infection

27
Q

what is Budd Chiari Syndrome?

A

a thrombus (blood clot) in the hepatics

28
Q

what is Marfan’s syndrome?

A

vessels are stetched, causing weakened vessel walls.
- patients with Marfan’s syndrome are usually tall and very thin

29
Q

how would a dissection appear on an ultrasound?

A

intimal lining is moving kind of like a flap

30
Q

what is pseudoaneurysm?

A

a leakage of blood from an artery into the surrounding tissue with persistent communication between the originating artery and the adjacent cavity.
