Q

Where do T cells come from and what kind of mediated immunity are they involved in?

A

Q

Describe type I-IV hypersensitivity reactions.

A

I: immediate, IgE mediated
- ex. bee sting, peanut, hay fever
II: IgG or IgM mediated, these ab react with cell-bound antigen
-ex. ABO incompat, hyperacute reaction, MG
III: Immune complex
- Serum sickness, SLE
IV: Delayed hypersensitivity
- TB skin test, contact dermatitis
-only reaction not to involve Ab, tests cell-mediated immunity

Q

WHen do you give tetanus toxoid vs. tetanus immune globulin?

A

Toxoid: Give in non-tetanus prone wounds if <3 doses given or >10 years; Give always in tetanus prone wounds if unless pt got >3 doses or its been <5 years since last

Immune globulin:
- Give only in tetanus prone wounds in patients that have not been immunized
