Q

Outline the components of the multi-store model

A
  • Sensory registor -small tempory store, information enters through senses
  • Attention - if store focused on, information moves to short term memory
  • STM store - small capacity and duriation (roughly 18 seconds) - repetition required to maintain information
  • Maintenance rehearsal - rehearsal to keep information in STM. If rehearsed enough will move to long term memory.
  • Long term store - potentially unlimited duration and capacity.

Q

1 pro + 2 cons of MSM

A

Pro

*Epilepsy patient case study. - HM - No hippocampus, could retrieve old/not make new memories

Cons
* Over-simplification - WMM suggests ST store further divided + long term store has different types of memory.
* STM possibly reliant on LTM - Chunking information requires existing LTM knowledge to group.
