Infrarenal causes of AKI

A

Direct damage to renal parenchyma & result in impaired nephron function
- Prolonged ischemia
- *Nephrotoxins: Aminoglycoside, Antibiotics (Tobramycin, Gentamicin, Neomycin) = #1 cause
- Contrast dye used in imaging studies
- Hgb released from RBC hemolysis (eg. DIC)
- Myoglobin released from necrotic muscle cells
