Q

What were 4 issues Elizabeth faced in 1558?

A

1) Religion: She was protestant but the country was mostly Catholic.

2) Legitimacy: Her mother was Anne Boleyn who had been executed so it was uncertain if she should succeed Henry VIII.

3) The war against France: England were losing and she had to win.

4) Marriage: Elizabeth did not intend to marry anyone as she was a woman so was at risk of giving up power. This meant that it was uncertain if she would have an heir.
