Forces In Balance Flashcards
What is displacement
A distance between two points without change in direction
What is a vector
Physical quantities with size and magnitude
What is a scalar
Physicsl quantities with size but no durection
Whats the two types of forces
Contact and no contact
What is the difference between contact and non contact forces
Contact: when objets need contact to contain force
Non contact: when objects dont need contact to contain force
What is nuetons third law of motion
For every force there is an opposite reaction
What is friction
the force exerted by a surface against an object when it
Whats is weight
The force of gravity pulling things downwards. It makes things fall and keeps things on the ground
What is upthrust
It pushes things upwards when there in a liquid like boats
What is thrust
A forward force from an engine for example
What is reaction
Stops things from going straight through solid objects
What is air resistance
Tries to stop things move in the air
What is newtons first law of motion
If the resultent force acting on an object is equal all the forces are balanced
What is centre of mass
The point which its mass can be thought of as being concentrated
