Structure BP Flashcards
1st part
Talk about how they structure the beginning of their article - maybe with a device like a rhetorical question or anecdote.
Follow this with the intended effect of this device or opening - what it encourages to think/feel.
2nd part
Find a device following the beginning of the article, quoting it and stating what it is, like an appeal, hyperbole, etc. (Possibly Rebuttal).
Follow this with its effect/what it creates a sense of within the reader.
3rd part
Follow this with another device/quote with another section of the text after the previous. State the effect of the device - like building credibility, effect on audience. (Possibly Rebuttal).
4th part
Finally, state how the author concludes their piece - most likely with a call to action (which can indicate an urgent tone!), and what this device/ending encourages the audience to feel/think.
Finish this paragraph off with a sentence relating to the effect on the audience of the device/statement you just mentioned. How, by appealing to a reader’s sense of something (logic/moral compass/etc), the author is able to encourage the audience to do something.
Images
When there is an image, ALWAYS reference it, its purpose and effect on the audience. If is at the beginning or end, mention this image with conjunction to how they introduce/conclude their piece.
