Men could make the important descisions. Women couldn’t divorce men but men could divorce women. Only men could own property and could go to school. Girls worked at home until marriage.
Disease and medicine

Leprosy with numb body parts and big spots were banned from villages
Illnesses were cause by demons so attempts were often made to cast them out
The sabbath
One day a week when no one worked because it was commanded by god and people would go to the synagogue for worship
Roman rule
They invaded in 63BC they slaughtered and robbed towns and villages amd didn’t take any rebellion.
Augustus
27bc to 14ad. Ocatvian was ruler when jesus was born. Bought great peace to the empire so was given the name augustus meaning majesty.
Herod
Was the ruler of the jews when jesus was born. Ten wives and many children who he executed frequently. Built a jewish temple which was a big part of jewish life in jesus time
Crime and punishment
Murder, piracy, banditry and rebellion were punished by crucifixion a long and slow death. One emperor killed more than 500 people in a day. Stoning was common for women who commited adultery. Children who disobeyed their father would be strangled with and iron collar.
