Why was York forced to resign from his second Protectorate in March 1456?
York wanted to reduce royal debt by asking nobles to sign over some of their land to the crown. This was unpopular and they turned it down. This makes it clear to York that he lacks Parliament’s support, so he is forced to resign from the protectorate.
