Command Points:
These points are used since they have a profound effect on a certain area.
Influential Points:
-Gathering points
-Have an affinity for certain issues
-Used alone but usually in combination w/ other points underlying cause
Small Intestine 1; Shaoze (lesser Marsh) Jing-well point/metal point/ entry point
L: On the ulnar side of the little finger, about 0.1 cun posterior to the corner of the nailbed
A: Promotes lactation, benefits breast’s, benefits the ear
Small intestine 3: Houxi (Back stream); Shu-stream point/ wood point/ confluent point of the governing vessel
L: When a loose fist is made, the point is proximal to the head of the 5th metacarpal bone at the junction of the red and white skin.
A: opens the governing vessel, expels interior wind, benefits the occiput, neck and upper back, benefits the eyes, benefits the ears, benefits the nose
Small Intestine 4: Wangu (Wrist bone); Yuan-source point
L: On the ulnar side of the palm, in the depression between the base of the 5th metacarpal bone and the triquetral bone, at the junction of the red and white skin.
A: Resolves damp-heat, clears heat
Small intestine 6: Yanglao (Nourishing the Aged); Xi-cleft point
L: With the palm facing the chest, the point is in the boney cleft on the redial side of the styloid process of the ulna.
A: Benefits the sinews, relieves pain
Small Intestine 8: Xiaohai (Small sea) He-sea point/Earth point:
L: Between the olecranon of the ulna and the medial epicondyle of the humerus. This point is best located w/ the elbow flexed.
A: Expels damp heat, clears heat
N: Ulnar nerve
Small intestine 9: Jianzhen (True Shoulder)
L: When the arm is adducted, the point is 1 cun superior to the tip of the posterior axillary fold.
A: Expels wind, benefits the shoulder, removes obstructions, relieves pain
N: Radial nerve
Small Intestine 10: Naoshu (Upper arm transporting) Yang Qiao Mai Point/ Yang Wei Mai point
L: When the arm is adducted, the point is in the depression inferior and lateral to the scapular spine directly superior to Si 9.
A: benefits the shoulder, removes obstructions, relieves pain
N: suprascapular nerve
Small intestine 11: Tianzong (heavenly gathering)
L: On the midline of the infrascapular fossa, at the junction of the upper 1/3 and middle 1/3 of the distance between the lower border of the scapular spine and the inferior angle of the scapula.
A: opens the chest, benefits the breasts
N: suprascapular nerve
Small intestine 12: Bingfeng (grasping the wind)
L: In the center of the suprascapular fossa, directly superior to Si 11. When the arm is abducted, the point is in the depression.
A: removes obstructions, relieves pain
N: suprascapular nerve & accessory nerve
C: Lung (pneumothorax risk in thinner patients
Small intestine 13: Quyuan (crooked wall)
L: On the medial extremity of the suprascapular fossa, approximately midway between Si 10 and the second thoracis spinous process.
A: expels wind, relieves pain
C: pneumothorax risk on deep oblique medial needling
Small intestine 15: jianzhongshu (Middle shoulder transporting)
L: 2 cun lateral to the lower border of the seventh cervical spinous process (GV 13)
A: descends lung Qi, resolves phlegm
N: Accessory nerve & dorsal scapular nerve
C: Pneumothorax
Small intestine 16: Tianchuang (heavenly window): Window of the sky point:
L: On the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, level with the laryngeal prominence.
A: subdues rebellious Qi, expels interior wind, clears heat, benefits the ears, benefits the throat, benefits the eyes
C: External jugular vein
Small intestine 17: Tianrong (heavenly appearance): window of the sky:
L: Posterior to the angle of mandible, in the depression on the anterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.
A: resolves damp-heat, expels fire poison(toxic heat), relieves swelling, subdues rebellious Qi, benefits the ears, benefits the eustachian tube
C: External jugular vein, internal jugular vein, internal carotid artery
Small intestine 19: Tinggong (hearing palace): Exit point:
L: Between the tragus and the condyloid process of the mandible, where a depression is formed when the mouth is slightly open.
A: benefits the ears, relieves pain
C: superficial temporal artery & vein
