Disadvantages
- Certain elements can be difficult to create in CAD and needs skilled users
- The initial cost for computers, processors and software packages can be costly
- Computers can be unreliable and designs can be lost or even stolen by hackers
- Technology and software needs to be constantly updated

- No need for expensive computer hardware and software so there is no barrier to access
- Complex design elements can be sketched quickly before the idea is forgotten
- Annotations can be made to the design at any point
- No limitations to the designs, shapes and materials you can represent in free hand sketching

- If the designer is unskilled, the sketches can be unclear and hard to understand
- The sketches are not accurate or professional and will still need to be modelled using CAD or formally drawn before being shown to clients or focus groups
