A
  • Comprised of:
    • 88 members in the assembly
    • elected for four years
  • Roles:
    • Forms Government
    • Holds government accountable (the Opposition)
    • Introduce and pass proposed laws
    • Represent the people’s interests when debating/making laws

A
  • Comprised of:
    • Eight regions in Victoria elect five members
    • 40 members in the council
  • Roles:
    • Review bills that the Legislative Assembly has passed
    • Introduce and pass proposed laws

Subordinate Authorities

A
  • Parliament doesn’t have the time/resources to make all the laws required for social cohesion
  • This causes both parliaments to delegate lawmaking power to subordinate authorities which can make minor laws
  • Known as delegated/subordinate legislation
  • E.g. Local councils (pets, rubbish, parking)/VicRoads (roads and traffic)
