Monarch (the crown and head of state), senate (the red room), house of commons (the green room + MP’s and PM)
who are the people involved in each part of parliament
Governor General: represent monarch on federal level, senators: work in the senate, MP’s: work in the house of commons.
what is the main job of parliament?
to pass laws that affect the whole country
what are the steps to create a law?
- Introduce the bill
- debate the bill
- study the bill
- vote on the bill
- pass it on to senate or house of commons depending on the situation. it could be either.
what is the role of each part( the people) of parliament in creating laws?
Governor General: to give royal assent to the bill
MP’s: introduce, debate, study, vote on bills
Senators: introduce, debate, study, vote on bills
where do ideas for laws come from?
a community, a political party platform, the citizens and people.
what is the word for a change in the bill
an amendment.
how are senators chosen?
they are appointed by the governor general with advice from the Prime Minister.
how are members of parliament chosen?
they are chosen through the voting process, by the citizens.
who do they MP’s represent?
citizens of canada aka “ the people”
what different roles can MP’s take on in parliament?
introduce, debate, study, vote on bills
talk to journalists
attend confrences, events, and ceremonies.
