-reduces anger and guilt
-taught to have weekly meetings (aim of solving problems and individual goals, resolve conflict and pinpoint stressors)
evidence for effectiveness
-relapse rates reduced by 50-60%
-moderate evidence to reduce relapse rates and hospital readmission but their were varying quality of research
explain - may improve quality of life (equips patients with skills) but doesn’t provide a cure for SZ
benefits to the whole family
-strengthens family function
-reduced negative impact on the patient
-patients SZ will affect the family less
reductionism
-ignore genetics (doesn’t establish a link between dopamine and SZ just environmental factors)
-cant be used on its own (relapse inly reduced by 50-60%, doesn’t address dopamines effects on the brain and emotions)
