normalisation - hearing voices is just an extension of ordinary ability to think in words
reality testing - examining the likelihood of the delusion being correct

evidence for effectiveness

A

-jauhar (2014) meta analysis that CBT had a small effect on positive and negative symptoms
-pontillo (2016) reduction in severity of auditory hallucinations
explain - moderate support for the effectiveness of CBT (better with other therapies)
however - can’t change levels of dopamine

limited treatment

A

-challenging dysfunctional thoughts may not be enough to change them if the thoughts have a biological basis
-rarely used without drug therapy (not enough on its own)
